Update from Cherry Homestead garlic and…
Our organic garlic and…
It has been some time since we gave an update here about what’s going on at Cherry Homestead, We have had a busy summer season filled with garlic harvest, guests staying in the cottage, and visits from family overseas. Lovely to see the borders are now open, and the cottage getting used by both kiwi families and overseas travelers.
It has been a tough couple of years starting a new business. We are receiving some accommodation bookings through our website but the majority of guests find us and book through Airbnb. We have received some beautiful reviews, which we are really grateful for. So if you are ever planning to come our way for a shorter or longer stay we would love for you to get in touch…
The garlic growing season has been a bit challenging, we have had lots of rain during the winter and spring, which has impacted some of our garlic crops. We have ended up with less garlic than anticipated but we still have a big chunk to sell
Selling our garlic…
The hardneck garlic is sold broken up into cloves this year, this is to make sure they are healthy and not damaged by the wet season. We only break them up after each order is made to maximize shelf life.
We have already been to a few markets, Motueka Sunday Market but also Mapua Village market. It’s lovely to chat with people and sell our products directly to customers, The kids have been helping out at the market, some days keener than others..=)
To be able to reach more kiwi families we are now also selling garlic online in our webshop. It is quick and easy and the garlic will be posted the next day or within a few days if ordered on a weekend.
Next season we have decided to move more towards growing softneck varieties, therefore we will save most of our softneck bulbs from last season to be used as seed for replanting this year. Fingers crossed the season will be dryer and less humid and wet.
Much love from the Wahlgren family
